Key West - An Accidental Trip into a Festival of Fantasy
In my life I feel truly blessed. I found the perfect husband, and we get to be parents to two of the most perfect kids. I feel truly lucky to be able to stay home with my kids, and I love where we live and the people here who've become true friends.
I've also been blessed with some lifelong friends. Friends who I've known for 15 years. Friends that no matter how long it's been, or how far away we are, we can always pick up right where we left off. About a month ago, two of those lifelong friends and I took a girls trip. Nicole, Michelle, and I met on the first day of college, at Hess Hall, at the University of Tennessee. We instantly clicked. We've been in each others weddings, thrown and attended countless showers together, and try to never go more than a year without seeing each other - despite considerable distances between us.
After many years of talking about a "just because" beach trip, (one that didn't have to do with a wedding, shower, bachelorette party, etc…) we finally planned one, and decided to meet up in Key West, Florida. Little did we know the dates that we had picked coincided with Key West's biggest festival, Fantasy Fest. Still not really sure what this was all about, we all did our own research on the festival. Still, none of us were prepared for what we actually saw. It was basically an anything goes, clothing totally optional, (and I think frowned upon), week-long party.
Needless to say, this was not the relaxing beach trip that most early thirty-year old Moms, and busy career women, are looking for, but we had a FABULOUS time and can't wait for next years trip. Just maybe a different time of year, or locale… One Fantasy Fest in a lifetime is more than enough!
